Collections

Non-Food Items

From time to time, we announce a collection of specific items such as clothing for Midnight Run or school supplies for the Lois Bronz Children's Center or housewares for the Domestic Abuse Task Force. We appreciate the generosity of our congregants but we must ask that you not bring in items that are not the subject of a currently announced collection. Much as we would love to have them, we simply do not have the space or resources they require.

Food of the Month

The Food Cart greets you as you enter the Religious School lobby to remind us that at Woodlands we care deeply about the issue of hunger in our community. Drop in a non-perishable healthy food item as you pass or send one in with your Religious School child.

Lois Bronze Children’s Center provides services/programs for infants, preschoolers, special education  students, early childhood and after school for school age children. For the past 12 years, with our community’s help, they have attempted to send their kindergarteners to school with new backpacks filled with school supplies. They have a large population of students that receive assistance and in this economic climate they have limited resources. New school supplies would help them ride the road to educational success by providing them with the necessary tools for school, and help in building their self-esteem, while teaching them to have respect and pride for their belongings. Please fill a backpack with the requested supplies – or purchase some of the components and leave the filling part to us – and bring it to the temple throughout July on Friday evenings when you come to Shabbat services and/or weekdays when the temple office is open (usually Mon, Tue and Thu (9:00 am - 5:00 pm), Wed (10:00 am - 2:00 pm) and Fri (9:00 am - 3:00 pm), but check before you come – 914-592-7070). Alternatively, you can drop off the items at the Center, 30 Manhattan Avenue, WP, weekdays
between 8:30 am and 5 pm. If you would prefer to send a monetary donation to enable the Center to purchase the items for the backpacks collection, please send a check made out to the Lois Bronz Children's Center, and in the memo section identify "Road to Success". Mail the check to Lois Bronz Children’s Center, Road to Success, 30 Manhattan Avenue, White Plains, NY 10607. Questions (or want to volunteer to organize the supplies for delivery to the center)? Contact Rabbi Lisa Izes at esizes@aol.com.

Project Ezra is a nonprofit organization that works with the frail Jewish elderly, helping them to live with dignity, companionship and community on NYC’s Lower East Side. Founded in 1972, it provides hundreds of elders with a variety of services and activities to reduce their social isolation and to enhance their lives. Woodlands has been hosting folks from Project Ezra at annual luncheons for years, a highlight in their activities as well as ours. Because of COVID, the luncheons are on hiatus. Instead, we are holding a food drive this July to help re-stock their Food Pantry that was greatly diminished during the pandemic. You can bring your donation of food (see list below) to the temple throughout July on Friday evenings when you come to Shabbat services and/or weekdays when the temple office is open (usually
Mon, Tue and Thu (9:00 am - 5:00 pm), Wed (10:00 am - 2:00 pm) and Fri (9:00 am - 3:00 pm), but check before you come – 914-592-7070). If you prefer, drop off a supermarket gift card (Stop & Shop, ShopRite or DeCicco’s) at the temple and we will do the shopping.
